Balance & Gait DisordersBalance and gait disorder training exercises are constructed to improve athletic and dance performance for our younger clients and to help maintain an active lifestyle, free of falls, for our elderly clients. Training for balance and gait disorders frequently begin with having the client work on a wider base of support while proceeding towards a more challenging narrow base of support. Our therapists will work on a unilateral stance and reaching position, reaching movements, and advance towards reaching on unstable surfaces, obstacle courses, and even integrate some of the principles of Pilates into the treatment program for better balance. Some of the equipment that our therapists use to simulate unstable surfaces are bosu balls, BAPS boards, physioballs and foamrollers, and Ab supports. This equipment is meant to assist clients in developing their balance and proprioceptive skills. |
