Surgical Rehabilitation

Back On Track provides a large variety of treatments to help patients recover from surgery. In order to prevent muscles from atrophying and rebuild muscle groups after surgery, one of the most important components to a patient's recovery is to get them up and moving around as soon as possible. Manual techniques are employed to enhance joint and soft tissue mobility and to manage post-surgical inflammation and pain. Ultrasound is used to manage pain and spasm of the soft tissues affected from surgery. To strengthen weakened muscles and reduce post-surgical pain and inflammation, electrical stimulation can be very advantageous.

Burdenko therapy and aquatic therapy are essential treament methods for clients healing from surgery. Once a patient has been cleared by their doctor for full submersion into water, the warmth of the water can help to relax stiff muscles and give the patient a safe, non-weightbearing atmosphere in which to increase their range of motion and build their strength. Fluidotherapy can offer moist heat to recovering limbs by using dry granules in a whirlpool-type environment which aids recovery in a post-surgical rehabilitation.

The rehabilitation process following orthopedic surgery would not be complete without the element of therapeutic exercise. At Back On Track, our therapists devise individualized exercise plans for each patient to improve range of motion, functional mobility, coordination, balance, proprioception, fine motor control, strength, and daily living. Our occupational therapists excel at constructing splints for the upper extremities and providing adaptive equipment for proper care after surgery or injury. Our goal is to have the patient functioning to the best of their ability while living reasonably pain-free.
