Torticollis & Pediatric Rehabilitation
At Back On Track we offer a variety of treatments for pediatric conditions. Our professional therapists have been trained to address many disorders that require pediatric rehabilitation. One of these conditions is torticollis also known as "wryneck." Babies that are born with this condition suffer from a tilted head; the chin points towards one shoulder and the head slants towards the opposite shoulder. This condition occurs because the neck muscle in the back of the baby's neck is shortened. Without treatment the baby's face and skull with grow irregularly and this will cause the baby to have a limitation to the mobility of the head and neck.
In order to correct this condition, the muscle in the baby's neck needs to be stretched. Our physical therapists will work with the baby to stretch that muscle. They will also work with the parent(s) of the baby to teach important exercises that can be done at home to stretch the baby's neck muscle. These exercises may take several months of work before the improvement has been made.
Back On Track offers other pediatric rehabilitation programs. Our therapists are sensitive to the needs of the family and will work with the family to create an appropriate program to help the child achieve maximum mobility, function, and comfort. Pediatric patients come to us with a variety of conditions which include such things as congenital abnormalities, spinal cord injury, neuromuscular disease, cerebral palsy, orthopedic conditions and arthritis.
Our staff will provide the utmost care to our young clients. We will design programs which encompass pain reduction, increased mobility, and improvement of the child's range of motion. We will perform exercises to increase strength, endurance, and movement. Our physical therapists with participate with the child in activities that will promote better balance and coordination. We can also train children and their families in use of devices that will assist them in their everyday lives such as wheelchairs, crutches, walkers and canes. Our staff is also skillful at making devices such as splints to help in the recovery process.
